FAQ

A. How does Tagmotion™ work?

  • Just as Twitter is a form of shorthand, Tagmotion™ is a form of shorthand for video.
  • You click through a ‘tag tree’. It’s just like clicking on folder and subfolder names in your Windows Explorer or Mac Finder.
  • The tag tree can be embedded in any website, blog etc. and shared via its url on Twitter, Facebook etc.
  • As your audience clicks on different tags in the tree, they see corresponding search results appear on the right hand side.
  • The deeper they go inside the tree, clicking tags at lower levels within it, the more specific (and fewer) the search results they get.
  • They click on a search result to watch the video.
  • Also, when you publish your tag tree, you can elect to publish it to your own page at Tagmotion.com. If you do this, your tag tree automatically gets a url that you can use to share it on Twitter, Facebook etc.

B. Tagging

1. How should I tag the video?

The tags can be ‘straight’ (like a librarian) or ‘bent (to reflect your personality or passion about the subject).
So Tagmotion’s a superior alternative to tag clouds for making video browsable and searchable.

2. How do I tag a segment within a video (so the segment can show up as a search result)?

  • You can do it here: http://youtubetime.com/
  • Then simply paste the new url into the URL field of your Add Video window).
  • OR FOLLOW THESE STEPS

  • a) Take note of where the segment begins (in minutes and seconds).
  • b) Then, in the URL field of the 'Add Video' window, add #t= at the end of the Youtube url (with no spaces - see example below).
  • c) Finally, add the minutes and seconds as in the following example (where m = minutes and s = seconds): 1m31s.
  • This will start the video at the 1 minute 31 second mark.
  • The url should look something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkENeuzVtUM#t=1m31s.

3. When I add timecode info to create a segment, it doesn’t work: the video starts at the beginning (instead of where I want it to).

Don’t enter timecode data to the url while the video is playing. If you pause or stop the video when you enter the data, it should be OK.

4. Can more than one person tag video using my account at the same time?

No. Tagmotion is not set up for collaborative tagging at the moment.
But this only applies to the Tag Tree Editor.
Any number of people can use your embedded tag tree to browse and watch video, of course.

C. Publishing & Sharing

1. How do I give my tag tree a title (that shows up wherever I embed it)?

Go into Publish Tag Tree Under the second heading: Embed in Your site, you’ll see a blank field titled: Tag Tree Name. Enter your desired name here.

2. How do I share on Twitter?

  1. In Tagmotion™, click the ‘Publish Tag Tree’ button in the top blue bar.
  2. Give your tag tree a title (typing it into the field as shown).
  3. You will now see the url when you click this button??
You can then copy and paste that url into Twitter.

3. Can people comment on my tags or tag trees? Can they subscribe to my tree?

Not at the moment. We plan to include social features like these in future releases.

4. Can I let other people add videos and tags to my tag tree, or can they only browse and search it?

Anyone who has access to your account can edit your tag tree just as you do. In other words, they need to sign in using your Tagmotion™ username and password.
Of course, you need to ensure they know how to use the application, or they may lose important data.
We may introduce collaborative tagging in future, where multiple people can use the one Tagmotion™ account at the same time.

5. Is Tagmotion™ optimised for mobile? iPhone? Android? iPad?

Not yet. We will email you about important new changes like this.

6. Can I share my tag tree on Facebook?

Yes. Simply paste your tag tree’s url into your Facebook status update. Find out how to create your url here (C2).

7. Can I embed Tagmotion into my Wordpress blog?

Yes. But if you have a hosted Wordpress account (ie as part of the wordpress.com hosted solution), your blog will not support the use of embed code.

For more:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/#flash-and-other-embeds

So whenever you attempt to paste the embed code from Tagmotion into a blog post, Wordpress will always strip out the iframe tags which include the embed code.

But if you host your own Wordpress software (rather than using the hosted, or ‘software as a service’ option), you will be able to embed a Tagmotion tag tree into your posts (because this version supports iframes via the installation of a plugin).

D. Appearance

1. It’s over-sized on my screen…..I have to scroll to move around the application.

Check that the settings in your browser aren’t zooming you in.
eg with Chrome, click View from the menu bar, then ‘Actual Size’.

2. Can I change the font, add bold, italics etc?

These options may be provided in future releases.

3. My screen has frozen up. How do I un-freeze it?

You’re probably a zealous user (we love those!) who has clicked a few buttons in rapid succession. If you hit the Escape button on your keyboard, that should fix it. If not, just close that tab or window and try logging in again.

E. Editing

1. What happens if I accidentally delete a tag tree or lose all my data?

Email us at mayday at Tagmotion dot com and we’ll do our best to recover it for you. Where we are able to restore your data, we will make our best effort to do so within 48 hours.

2. My tag trees won’t save when I edit them.

They save automatically, but this may take longer than you think if you have a slow internet connection. You will know because the status of the saving process is shown in the blue bar above the tree as either: “Saving tag tree”, or “Tag Tree Saved”. Make sure you don’t click away to do something else until you see “Tag Tree Saved”.

3. If I make changes to my tag tree, is the embedded tree updated automatically?

Yes. If you can’t see the change or addition you’ve made, just click the ‘refresh’ button in your browser and you should see it then.

F. Your account, payment & advertisements

1. Why do you have free and paid versions?

The paid version gives you:

  • an unlimited number of videos (and segments)
  • no ads with your search results

The free version has the same functionality as the paid version but you’re limited to 20 videos (including segments) and your audience sees ads with their search results. You have no control over the ads that appear.

2. Can I block certain types of ads from appearing with Tagmotion™ embedded on my site?

Unfortunately, no. It’s not practical at the moment for us to allow you to block ads from your competitors, for example. The advertising that comes with free accounts is ‘one size fits all’.
We do block ads that we deem to be unsuitable (gambling, tobacco, adult services etc) from all accounts.
If you want your tag tree to be ad-free, you can choose the paid version for $2 per month.

3. Do I need multiple accounts if I want to have multiple trees?

Yes. You have the choice of free (ad-supported) accounts or paid accounts that carry no advertising.

4. How do I pay for the ad-free version?

  1. PayPal buyers in at least 19 countries can select their preferred payment method, including:
  2. credit cards
  3. debit cards
  4. their bank account
  5. any balance in their PayPal account, or
  6. a host of other payment methods available in their country of origin.

5. Why do I pay an annual subscription rather than a one-off payment?

First, you have the choice of a free account where advertising appears with search results, or an ad-free paid account.
Tagmotion™ isn’t an application that you download. It’s a web application that you can access when you’re connected to the internet. So it makes no sense to charge you per ‘download’.

6. How does my subscription get renewed?

TODO

7. Can I keep my data when I upgrade to an ad-free, paid account?

Yes you can. Just go in and create a new ‘paid’ account. You can then export your tag trees & all the contents of your old free account over to your new ‘paid’ account.

8. What happens to my data if I want to close my account?

If you cancel or don’t renew your subscription, your account will revert to a free account.
After six months we will disable it, meaning you will no longer be able to embed your tag tree anywhere.
But you will still be able to go in and see all the videos you’ve indexed, along with all the tags you’ve applied, including your tag tree.

9. How can I change the ads that appear with the video?

  • Tagmotion™ has no control over the ads that appear before your video plays, or ‘overlay ads’ that appear in the bottom section of the video player, with either the free or the paid version. These ads are controlled by Youtube.
  • Under Youtube’s terms and conditions, we are only able to include advertising with your search results. So if you have the free version, the banner ads you see in the search results pane are the way we make money. If you’re unhappy about these ads, you have the option of upgrading to the (ad-free) paid version on the homepage.

10. I have multiple accounts. How can I tell which one I’m in?

If you’ve forgotten which email account your account relates to:

  • click the ‘Account’ button at top right
  • click ‘Manage my account’. Your chosen email address will be right there.

G. General

1. Who is Tagmotion™ aimed at?

It’s aimed at anyone who wants a better way to keep track of, and share any collection of Youtube videos. Anyone who wants to make these videos more discoverable, via Twitter or their blog or their website.

2. What are the advantages of a web application?

The main benefit of a web or ‘cloud’ application is that you’re using the very latest version all the time. We are constantly improving Tagmotion™ & you can instantly take advantage of these improvements without paying for an upgrade or downloading anything.

3. What are Tagmotion’s main benefits?

  • It is much easier to navigate than a tag cloud or thumbnails with spotty tagging. And it’s more scaleable than either.
  • As publisher, you have control over the order in which people see things as they navigate your tag tree.
  • But they can still take whatever ‘path’ they like through the tree, clicking on the tags that take their fancy, to discover video they want to watch.

4. Why do you have free and paid versions?

We wanted to allow people who are serious about their video collection as much control as possible over how Tagmotion looks.

5. What features will you add to Tagmotion™ next?

New features will be added regularly & instantly available.
You’ll be notified by email whenever we turn important new features on.
New features may include the following:

  • more social features eg comments, ‘subscribe’ to someone’s tag tree
  • index videos hosted on domains besides Youtube
  • versions for mobile including iPhone, iPad, Android
  • change the look of your tag tree
  • auto numbering of tags, bullets
  • auto alphabetical sorting
  • multilingual support
  • API’s for integrating Tagmotion™ into other websites and applications

6. Will new features be available on the free version?

  • Yes. These will be available to paid subscribers and users of the free version.
  • You will need to upgrade to the paid version if you want to index more than 20 videos (including segments).

7. Can I use Tagmotion™ with videos hosted on our company website?

Not at the moment. We may introduce API’s to allow you to do this in future.

8. Can I search videos using keyword search?

We will turn on a keyword search feature with a future update. At the moment, Tagmotion™ is purely for navigating video by browsing.

9. How do you make money?

Tagmotion™ makes money from subscriptions with the paid version and from advertising with the free version.
The limitation with the free version is that you can only have (index) 20 videos, including segments.

10. Are there multilingual versions?

We intend to release multlingual versions in future. Subscribers to the paid version will be notified by email whenever we turn on new features such as this.

11. Do you track my browsing behavior?

With the free version of Tagmotion™, you may see advertisements next to your search results. These are delivered by our advertising partner, Adbrite.
You may also see advertisements with the Youtube videos you watch. We have no control over the advertising that appears with Youtube videos. If you want to, you can opt out of being tracked by Adbrite, Google, and most of the other ad networks at the Self-Regulatory Program for Online Behavioral Advertising website:
http://www.aboutads.info/choices/

12. What are the ‘Additional Fields’ for. Can I search on them?

When you add a video to your index, you may wish to include extra information that these fields cater for.
You can’t search on these fields at the moment, but we will add this feature in the future.
